MAF relief team returns from Mirpurkhas

Karachi. Oct 13: A 25-member team of doctors, paramedics and volunteers of Medical and Foundation (MAF) arrived here from Mirpurkhas after completing its relief mission in the area.

Mirpurkhas is one of the worst hit areas after the recent floods in rural Sindh. In view of this situation, MAF team set-up several free medical and relief camps in Umerkot, Pithore, Shadipalli, Dhoru Naru, Soofi Faqir, Sadik Abro Goth, Janmangoro, Rais Saign Goth, Jadan, Monghrio, Akri Syed  Ali Mohammed, Karamchund and Syed Kamal Shah villages.

In Shadipalli alone, 1,650 ration bags and over 7000 blankets were distributed to the affected people and provided free medical aid to over 5,800 and distributed relief goods to over 2,500 families. All the visits were made through Ford ambulance donated by the Rotary Club of Wartfor North.

The medical team has reported gross inefficiency of the local management as no medicines stock was available and the basic health units were not functioning at all.

Cases of cereberal malaria, aneamia, gastroenteritis, jaundice and skin infections were rampant with no immediate medical aid in sight. They were awaiting the help which has been promised to them only on paper.

In view of this, the President of the Foundation, Dr Saira khan has decided to arrange further visits to those areas with a view to providing them whatever little aid the MAF could do.

Its team is leaving again today (Oct, 13) for Umerkot and Chhore.
