DC Umerkot fails to cooperate with MAF team
 By our correspondent

Karachi: Total 15 members of the Social Service Division of the Medical Aid Foundation (MAF) visited Umerkot for the distribution of dry ration and holding of a free medical camp for the poor people of Umerkot and Shadipalli.

Unfortunately the free medical camp in Shadipalli could not be held due to the mismanagement of the DC Umerkot, Manghi. Having made prior arrangements during the previous week, when the medical team arrived in Umerkot, no adequate arrangements had been made by Manghi, DC Umerkot, and the senior members of the press faced problems due to poor coordination by the SDM Umerkot and the non-availability of the DC.

However, in a couple of hours hundreds of people gathered in the Taluka hospital, Umerkot, and treatment was provided to eh ailing poor patients.

A total of 580 patients were examined and 180 women were given bags of ration which contained, rice, sugar, pulses, tea, dry milk, fruit juice and Nimko.

Hayat Gazzaz, wife of the consul general of Saudi Arabia, provided the ration and juice for the poor people.

The Medical facilities available to the poor population are grossly inadequate, and the most affected are the women and children, who were very anemic and malnourished. The basic health units were not functioning in Umerkot and Chhor, and all the doctors appointed for the Taluka hospital ermined absent.

The indoor patients hospitalized in the Taluka hospital complained of not getting proper medical attention.

The team of the Medical Aid Foundation returned on Saturday after a two-day visit. Three medical camps were set up in the holy month of Ramazan and large quantities of medicines were sent to Chhor, Munndhar and Sial in District Dadu. The free medical camp was also setup last week at Kati Bandar. Several patients were detected having cancer, and arrangements were made to bring them to Karachi for further evaluations and treatment. They would be hospitalized at Rahatkada Hospital, Karachi.
