Karachi Rotarians come to the aid of victims

Karachi, March 19; The Rotary Club of Karachi has decided to set up emergency booths at the three principal public hospitals of the city to help provide medical aid to the victims of riots and shootings, thus becoming the first NGO to come to the aid of the victims of disturbances in the city.

In this connection members of the Relief Committee appointed by the Club, have already met the Medical Superintendent of Abbasi Shaheed Dr. Mugheesuddin Ahmed and of Jinnah Dr. Bhatti and 100 sheets and some medicines have already been supplied to them. The members are raising funds to provide injections medicines bandages and blood to the injured.

The relief committee is headed by Mr. Hashim B. Sayeed and the members are: Mr Anjum Nisar, Mr Syed Iradat Hussain, Mr Aziz Memon, Dr M.K Mangi, Dr Saira khan, Mr Asif Fancy, Dr. Anklesaria, Dr. Mervyn Hossein and Mr Naveed khan.

The committee members will soon call on the Medical Superintendent of the Civil Hospital also to ascertain its emergency needs which they could provide.

The Rotary Club of Karachi took the unanimous decision at a meeting on March 13 to set up emergency booths at three hospitals to provide medical aid to eh victims of riots and shooting that is currently taking place in the city. Members present contributed Rs. 157,000 was collected. More donations are expected to be collected.

It has been proposed that those members who are able/fit (below 60 years) should also contribute blood. Arrangements have been made with Hilal-e-Ahmar Society (Sindh) to take blood from donating members on 20th March, one hour before the Rotary meeting timing at Pearl Continental Hotel. Those young members who can donate for this noble cause as most of the victims need to be given blood.

Members have also been requested to assist Dr. H.S Anklesaria who has volunteered to provide medical aid to the families of the victims and injured persons at the Rotary Community Centre, on plot No. ST-3, Block 1, Scheme No. 36, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi.
