Karachi, Feb 28, (PR); A 15-member team of Social Service Division of the Medical Aid Foundation visited Umarkot for the distribution of dry ration and holding free medical camp for the poor people of Umerkot and Shadipalli. But free medical camp could not be held in Shadipalli due to mismanagement by the DC, Umerkot. Although it had been decided prior to the visit, but when the medical team reached Umarkot they found no adequate arrangements had been made by Mr. Manghi, DC, Umarkot. The senior members of the Press could see for them selves the lack of coordination by the SDM, Umarkot while the DC was not available.
However, in a couple of hours hundreds of people collected in the Taluka Hospital and were given treatment. About 580 patients were examined and 180 women were given ration bags which contained, rice, sugar, dal, tea, dry milk, fruit juice and Nimko.
Madam Hayat Gazaz, wife of the Consul General of Saudi Arabia had provided the ration and juice for the poor People.
The team found that facilities available to the poor population in the area are totally inadequate. The women and children are the most affected. Most of them were very anaemic and undernourished. The Basic health units were not functioning in Umarkot and Chhor and the doctors appointed for Taluka Hospital are never present. The indoor patients hospitalized in the Taluka Hospital complained that they do not get proper medical attention.
The medical Aid Foundation team returned on Saturday after two days visit. Three medical camps have also been set up in the holy month of Ramazan and large quantities of medicines have been sent to Chhor, Mundhar and Sial, District Dadu. A free medical camp has also been setup last week at Keti Bunder.
Several patients were detected for cancer and arrangements made to bring them to Karachi, for further evaluation and treatment. They will be hospitalized in Rahatkada Hospice, Hali Road Karachi. |
