Medical Aid Foundation’s 25 member team of doctors, paramedics and volunteers has returned to Karachi after working in Mirpurkhas and Umerkot, amongst the worst-hit areas of the recent flood and rains.
Medical relief were organized for 4 days each in Umerkot, Pitharo, Shadipalli and Samaru, Villagers also came from adjoining areas of Dharu Naru, Soofi Faqir, SAdiq Abro Goth, Janmangoro, Rais Saigan Goth, Jadan, Mongrio, Akri, Syed Ali Mohammad, Karamchand & Syed Kamal Shah Goth, Qila Diwan Sheikh Nabi Shah Goth.
In Shadi Palli alone 1,650 bags of ration and over 7,000 blankets were distributed. Medical camps were held in small villages through Ford Ambulance donated by the Rotary Club of Waford North.
The total number of partients examined were 5,800. Relief goods were given to 5,200 families and consisted of rice, sugar, dal, milk powder, matches, atta, razai, clothes, etc.
These visits revealed gross inefficiency of the local management as no stock of medicines was available.
It found an overwhelming number of cases of cerebral malaria, anaemia, gastroenteritis, jaundice and skin infections – all requiring immediate attention
Basic Health Units are not a functioning, no doctor visits them and there are no medicines. X-ray machines in a basic health unit of Pithoro was lying un-repaired for the past three years.
The areas of umerkot, & Chhore, like many other areas are still awaiting help which has been promised on paper only.
The Medical Aid Foundation team is leaving again on Thursday (today) for Umerkot and Chhore. |
